beginning of the legend of zelda timeline

The legend of Zelda Timeline

Inside Hyrule Historia Nintendo document The Legend of Zelda timeline in chronological order. It was hotly debated in the Zelda fanbase about what game came when and how, and sometimes if, the stories even connected. Nintendo had spoken of a master document which connected to the Zelda timeline together but until the release of the Historia it wasn’t ever made public.

Now we know what order the game are in, where each story places in the timeline and how each affected the next game. I’ve been able to see some amazing things in games I never considered before knowing the order of the games.

The Legend of Zelda Timeline Split

Skyward Sword is the game farthest back in the Timeline. Then is Minish Cap and Four Swords. After that is Ocarina of Time. This is the point where things starts to get a bit more interesting.

The Ocarina of Time Timeline Splits

Zelda timeline splits from OoT

This is the point where the 3 possible timelines occur

There are 3 possible outcomes to Ocarina of Time. The 2 that were already somewhat known: Child Link timeline and the Future Timeline. These 2 parallel timelines occurred by Zelda removing the time travel restrictions of the sword and allowing Link to travel back and forth through time. The 3rd is the outcome that Link failed to resurface, Gannon wins and the world is left in tatters.

The Legend of Zelda Timeline Split 1 – Childhood

When Link opens the door of time and is put to sleep until adulthood he then has the ability to go back in time and change the future he woke in. He does this and defeats Gannon but is then returned to his childhood – where he continues on to Majora’s Mask.

The Legeond of Zelda Timeline Split 2 – Future

This timeline split occurs the moment when Link first goes back in time. The Future timeline persists without Link traveling back in time, and not altering the Future. He defeats Gannon and the Sages seal him away but he later escapes the seal and there is no Hero to surface. Without the Hero of Time the Gods are forced to flood Hyrule leading to the watery lands of Wind Waker.

The LEgend of Zelda Timeline Split 3 – Gannon Defeats Link

The 3rd split from Ocarina of time is the one where Link fails to defeat Gannon. In this timeline the Sealing War occurs and Gannon is sealed until the events of A Link to the Past

Take the timeline split of Link failing to defeat Gannon. Gannon wouldn’t have allowed the Deku Sprout to flourish and grow, since the tree sent Link on the journey to defeat him. It would have just stayed as it did when it you defeat Queen Gohma. Considering the first ever Legend of Zelda on the NES’s first dungeon is entered via an old, dead, tree and that game is in that timeline split where Link failed. It’s fair to assume that the tree is the dead Deku Tree from Ocarina of Time!

Wind Waker Remake is coming and it’s on the Wii U
HOT!

There are 2 Zelda games in the works for Wii U. One of them is a brand new title and the other is a remake of the Gamecube title: Wind Waker.

The remake has evolved from testing done for the new game and I have to say I’m so glad they’ve chosen Wind Waker to remake on the Wii U and not Majora’s Mask. It means I can still hold my breath for Majora’s Mask 3DS :D

The graphics of Wind Waker Wii U are stunning. They look so clear, vibrant and fresh. I know a lot of people were put off by the cartoonish style of Wind Waker, I was in the beginning anyhow but I pushed through and after a few hours they grew on my.

With the new graphics maybe some people who shied away before will give this a shot. Both you and I know that it more than worth at least a single playthrough.

Wind Waker Remake Screenshots

The real reason I’m writing this is just so I can share the screenshots of Wind Waker for Wii U from the video on Nintendo Direct.

I posted about an amazing, make-with-love, Zelda baby blanket on the site last year and some Zelda cakes last week, maybe you’d be interested in looking at those too.

So what do you think about this remake, will you buy it?

Zelda… For Kids!
HOT!

Zelda is an experience not just a game, let the creator take you on an adventure. And when you have a kid you do exactly the same thing – it’s an adventure. Someone has combined both to create an excellent piece of baby blanket WIN. This is surely something to keep hold of for life!

A site (I’ve only just hear of) called Tip Top Lolz holds votes on pictures that you can either vote up or vote down. My girlfriend found this picture titled “My wife is going to have a baby in about a week so her mother made us a baby blanket. I thought you guys might like it”. Image is credited to MichelleGlavan’s channel on the site. It’s a pixel perfect replica of Link from The Legend of Zelda stitched on a baby blanket. It’s hand-made by one lucky baby’s grandmother. The imagery chosen is from “The Legend of Zelda – A Link to the Past” and it looks marvellous.

Link “I’m Just One Boy!”

You are a small boy in a large map, Link, the humble Hero of Time. You are clad in a green tunic bearing little weapons or defenses for yourself. You must traverse large areas and solve complicated puzzles, fight huge beasts and destroy evil do-ers through ought.. All to assemble the Triforce and save the Princess … and the world.

This is Link, our humble Hero of Time

The Triforce consists of 3 golden prisms, each bearing it’s will to courage, power and wisdom.

Throughout the adventure numerous magical items come into your possession, each allowing you further progression throughout the land. There is a magic sword dubbed The Master Sword (link throws them away he has hundreds lol) that is usually the only way to defeat the last boss of the game, in most iterations, Gannon. There is usually 2 separate worlds entwined. The dark world and the light world. The dark world being the manifestation of Gannon‘s will to turn all good to evil and become supreme ruler. In almost all cases you must save the princess most commonly Princess Zelda, with her flowing blonde hair and her pink royal gown.

Once you defeat Gannon, rescue Zelda and finally save the world there is a party in your honor and an ending scene customarily showing almost all of the characters you encounter while playing the game.

All an easy feat for our Hero Of Time and in the next Zelda post we shall delve more into the creation and development of the character of Link himself

The Wii U and The Zelda Demo

Check out this Zelda demo on the soon to be released Wii U (formerly the Wii 2 or Project Cafe) console. This is just a demo and not an actual game, but it’s being played in 1080p and that has never been possible on any Nintendo console, EVER! You can buy a component cable for the Wii that allows you to play in 720p but never as high as 1080p. In this video what is shown is the Zelda demo, Link fighting a spider (Ghoma) like boss.

It’s also the Wii U controller demo. 2 analogue sticks, 4 shoulder buttons, 4 normal buttons on the left and a D-Pad on the right. It also has almost a full array of Wii buttons like “+” “-” and “Home”. Also featuring a 7″ touch screen making the controller appear massive. Expansion ports for various things like a microphone and a built-in camera.

What is shown is 2 separate lighting effects being toggled from the controller to prove that it’s not a streamed pre-rendered video. Camera angle switching and a button to push the image from the TV right to the controller, the reviewer even commenting that the gaming could continue whilst the TV is switched to another channel. However with the data from the controller screen in normal mode is moved to the TV I feel that this may somehow not work 100% in practice. So in total on the touch screen there are 3 buttons programmed in for the Zelda demo. HD graphics look good, this is to show what is possible for the next (after Skyward Sword) Zelda game and by the time it comes to the game release im sure there will be more than 3 interactive buttons for the touch screen.

The Wii U looks like it’s shaped up well and could indeed compete along-side the 360 and the PS3.

Apparently a massive Project Cafe Leak

An anonymous user seems to have leaked a whole bunch of details regarding Nintendo’s upcoming console. Read through the lot below.
The System:

Uses a custom IBM triple-core CPU running at 3.6GHz per core

The development kit contains 1gb RAM, but Nintendo have hinted that the console will actually have 1.5gb

Nintendo will be releasing games that will run 1080p natively. Sources say that with Nintendo’s art style and the power the system has, the games look ‘stunning’.

The system does run on AMD R700 card, but the architecture is slightly different and the clock speeds are much higher.

The System resembles JPN/EU SNES machines in color only and not in shape

The development kit is about the size of a 360, not the console

Close sources say it’s as if Nintendo is in “damage control” with 3rd party developers. Nintendo is trying really hard to get 3rd parties on board to develop games and have offered incentives such as not releasing big-title Nintendo games in holiday seasons to compete against 3rd party titles.

Nintendo went to many 3rd party developers on guidance on what they were after with the new console in terms of system specs, controller and online system.

The Controller:

Nintendo have been keeping this really quiet and have only given developers controller prototypes to start designing games. However, the final controller build with all the features have only been given to Nintendo 1st and 2nd party developers for now.

Nintendo had planned on inserting a screen on the controller back when the Gamecube was in development, but opted out due to technology not being advanced enough to be functional

The controller that’s been given to developers has a large 5.7inch hd (960x640pixel) screen, 2 analogue sticks, 4 face buttons, 3 middle buttons (select/home/start in that order), 2 shoulder buttons and 2 triggers.

The triggers aren’t as deep as the 360’s triggers, but have plenty of push

The big thing about the screen is that it’s a multi-touch screen, contains it’s own battery and is detachable from the controller unit

The screen when detached contains its own memory so developers can store data on it, so gamers can play whatever the developer designs for the screen-only use

When the screen is attached to the controller it works by streaming content directly from the console

Nintendo are giving developers ideas other than just having it function as a quick menu screen for games while attached, or as a simple tamagochi-like mini-game when detached

The controller contains a gyroscope, but motion controls isn’t the focus of the controller like it was for the Wii

Games:

Nintendo will release a Mario platformer as a launch title which hasn’t been done since the N64.

The Mario platformer looks to be the spiritual successor to Mario 64.

Gamefreak and EAD are hard at work developing a Pokemon online RPG.

The Pokemon RPG is not an MMO, but does have a large online emphasis and will be Nintendo’s flagship title when showing off the online capabilities of the console.

There will be at least one new IP Nintendo will reveal at E3.

Nintendo is working on a new Zelda, but didn’t reveal anything to developers.

Other:

Some developers have had the Wii 2 dev kit for going on 2 years now. When the Wii 2 is released in late, that’s 3 years to develop games on.

Because of such generous development time, Nintendo have pushed 3rd parties to develop high quality games to be released at or near launch.

Nintendo have sourced an external company to develop their online network, which the developer has commented, surpasses both the PS3 and 360 in terms of speed and functionality.

Nintendo is pushing for the console to be online 24/7 and have seamless online integration with many of their games

Friend codes are confirmed to be gone

Nintendo has been toying with the idea of a game where the main character is your Mii

Nintendo will be pushing their Pokemon RPG to showcase their online network

Rockstar are supposedly hard at work in bringing on of their “most popular” titles to the console.

Most of the information makes sense and might prove out to be true. We’ll have to wait a couple of more days to find out for ourselves though.
